To run a web site the easiest way forward is to get the site hosted by a web hosting company. The web hosting company ('web host') has a computer that is connected to the internet.
Web hosting can be shared (where many people use the same computer as you) or dedicated (where you virtually own the machine the web runs on). Shared is cheaper but usually has more restrictions that dedicated.
If you have several web site or want to resell hosting then consider dedicated.
You can usually have Windows Server or Linux. Think what you may want to run on the machines, especially if you intend to have a database like Microsoft SQLServer (a free version called MSDE is available) or MySQL. HTML will run on either, so will PHP but ASP, ASPX and most .NET programs will require Windows.
Many of the web hosting companies will have preinstalled packages for free, maybe also including eCommerce and CMS (Content Management Systems) free or at reduced rates. If you are outside the USA you can still use the American hosting companies, and it may work out less expensive.
